"the fast and the furious" (2001) is a film crafted on broad appeal, racially, musically and culturally with romance, action, sci-fi elements, crime drama and street cred on high visibility. not a masterpiece, nor a masterclass but a smart, knowing product produced with (at the time) state of the art levels, it's no accident, there'll be a 9th film in the franchise soon. It's Hollywood making bets and doing schemes and the results ARE masterful.
