Tales From The Crypt Seasons 1 & 2 DVD Review

Seasons 1 (1989) + 2 (1990) Review:

Sometimes painful, almost always cheesy, this show has not aged well for me. With acting names you probably know scattered throughout the series, there's very little quality control on display here. With "The Hitchhiker", which aired a few years before this on HBO, most of the basic storylines offered in the first 2 seasons (endless variations of jilted lover/crimes of passion/cheating spouses) had already been covered with more skin and worse saxophone. Very few episodes live up to being worthy of the comic book inspiration, not enough to justify purchasing whole seasons. Cherry picking individual episodes through itunes would be the best option. "And All Through The House" S1 E2 remains maybe the best episode of the entire run. 3 others that stuck out were "The Man Who Was Death" S1 E1, "Cutting Cards" S2 E3 and the very EC "The Thing from the Grave" S2 E6.
